VOTERS APPROVE OPL’S BUDGET FOUR TO ONE
Voters in the Oneida Public Library Special Legislature District on March 4 overwhelmingly approved Oneida Public Library’s proposed budget for its next fiscal year 322 votes to 97 and elected two new members of the library board, James Dieso and George Richard “Rick” Kinsella, Jr.
The library’s new operating budget for FY 2014-15, starting July 1, is $382,110, a 1.66 percent increase over FY 2013-14. Of the total, the OPL’s Special Library District tax levy will be $334,110.
Dieso, who received 345 votes, will fill out the term of retired board member Eileen Kinsella for one year. Rick Kinsella, tallying 341 votes, will serve a full five-year term. Both assume office July 1.
JOHN TAIBI INTRODUCES N.Y.S. HIGH-SPEED RAIL MARCH 8
Railroad historian John Taibi leaps to the present in his presentation “The Empire Corridor: High-speed Rail May Be Coming Your Way” at Oneida Public Library Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. Armed with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement recently released by the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation for public comment, Taibi will explain what “high-speed rail” really means in terms of speed (from 90 to 250+ m.p.h.), New York’s existing and alternative railroad infrastructure, projected ridership and revenue and the possible local impact.
